🖥 Ubuntu 26.04 LTS on VPS and Dedicated
2026-04-24
On April 23, 2026, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon was released. For those building infrastructure on Ubuntu, LTS (Long-Term Support) releases provide a stable platform for at least the next five years.
Key changes in the new version:
- Linux kernel 7.0 with support for new hardware (Intel Nova Lake, AMD Zen 6) and general performance improvements.
- Gradually moving away from legacy: some system utilities are now written in Rust (sudo-rs, uutils).
- A strong focus on security: TPM encryption and post-quantum cryptography.
- A more modern desktop stack: GNOME 50 and the final switch to Wayland (though the system requirements have increased to a recommended 4 GB).
- Improvements for GPU-based systems: ROCm and CUDA are available directly from the standard repositories.
The new version is now available for automatic installation on VPS and Dedicated. You can test it and see how it works.
Are you planning to upgrade soon, or are you sticking with older versions for now? What else do you use for work besides Ubuntu? I’d love to hear your answers in the comments.
